Last night, I rode The Dragon.

Why is fruit punch red? Rather, why do we universally accept that fruit punch is supposed to be red?

If, like me, you use multiple computers, you may find the Firefox add-on Xmarks (formerly Foxmarks) useful. Utilizing their servers for storage (or a server of your choosing if you're paranoid about these sorts of things) it synchronizes your Firefox bookmarks on as many computers as you care to install it on. It also has the option for synchronizing your passwords; but that I am paranoid about, so I've never tried it. The bookmark syncing though, is a wonderful thing. It's become one of the three things I immediately add to Firefox on any computer I setup for myelf, along with Down Them All and Ad Block Plus.

Over the weekend, I bought a pickup truck.

It has 320k miles on it and set me back 400 bucks. I've been wanting to get a second vehicle for a while, preferably a truck for the occasional hauling capacity. As tight as finances have been, I wasn't sure I'd be able to swing it, but the guy I bought it from is a good friend of my brother's and was willing to take some of the money now and some of it later. He even told me to not worry about putting myself in a bind and to just give him the rest whenever I could.

The motor seems solid but the transmission is a little flaky. Bajillions of S-10s have been made over the years and my brother does auto salvage as side-work, so keeping it running shouldn't be too much of a chore. If the transmission goes, I can just drop another one in.

My other, youngest brother is relocating back to central Kentucky from eastern Kentucky. For the time being, he's going to crash in our basement until he decides where he's going to land. He's already secured employment in Frankfort and will be helping-out with some of the expenses when he can. I hope he decides to settle in Frankfort permanently. It'd be nice to have him in town. In the meantime, it's going to be a blast having him stay with us.
28th-Dec-2006 06:20 pm - Christmas 2006 recap
frazzled
haven't been writing daily logs or taking daily photos. I've just been enjoying the company of family and friends all week. I'd like to do a recap, however, for my own record. I've cut it because, honestly, most of you probably won't care. Think of it as, several daily logs condensed into one big, fat entry. The last log I wrote was Friday, so we'll pick-up from there.

y mom isn't like most moms.

When I was a kid, one of the jobs she had was as a book-keeper for St. Catherine's College, a private, Catholic school in Washington Co. which offered associate's programs and basic college level education. While employed there, she took some courses. Years later, when I left home to go to the University of Kentucky, she decided that she wanted to finish doing something with her college education and enrolled at UK as well. She pursued a journalism degree while I was getting my English degree. At one point, we actually shared a class together. If memory serves me correctly, she graduated before I did.

One year for Christmas, she decided that she wanted to do something with all of her kids that was unique and a new experience for her. I was in my early 20's at the time, she in her 40's, and she decided that with me, she wanted to go to a local Laser Tag arena in Lexington and play laser-tag with me.

A couple of years ago, my mom decided that at the age of 56, she wanted to learn to play the drums. At first she started learning some basics with a practice pad from a couple of friends and family members who play. Soon, though, she began taking lessons and bought herself a drum kit. I happened to be home the week it arrived and I helped her assemble it in her living room.

Not long after she learned a little about playing, I took a short video of her rock'n out. It's been well over a year, and I'm sure she's gotten a lot better at it by now, but I wanted to share it with you.

My mom's a pretty amazing lady. She has a spirit that I not only envy, but I'm sure I inherited. I have this idea about going skydiving sometime in the near future, and whenever I mention it her eyes light-up a little bit. I'm not sure if/when I decide to do it she'll actually go, but it wouldn't surprise me if she did.
