 just got back on the road after being off for nearly a week, hanging out with ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) welfy in Western PA. I had a great time and took hundreds of photos. It occurred to me that I haven't posted a photo mix since March. So without further ado, here's a random assortment for your amusement, in reverse chronological order. As always, feel free to ask about anything which strikes your fancy.

have about a 3.5 hour drive to finish up this trip to Columbia and no idea what I'm doing next. I've loaded up the music player with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Babes in Toyland... now there's a combination. Fubu's currently napping in the cubby hole above the driver seat. Yesterday though, I took a fun picture of her looking down at me while I was driving.

 've decided to take a break from training for the next month. I personally need it, but also there is a really long weekend coming-up in June where welfy and I plan to go to Pennsylvania for a friend's wedding. That will likely involve me being off nearly a week, and I don't see any point in having a student sit around a motel in Frankfort for all that time. I'm hoping that also I might be afforded time here and there to do people and see things, er... do things and see people. When I'm training, it just seems like we're always moving and never have time to stop and smell the roses.
I thought it might be fun to bring Fubu with me. I'm sure she could use a couple of weeks R&R on the road; a vacation from her tough home life of napping in the sun and snuggling with the house mates. She was reluctant at first, and it took her a while to get her "truck feet" back, but it wasn't long before she was climbing into the overhead cubby hole or sitting on my lap while I drove and, well, napping on the bunk or snuggling with the truck driver. I guess you never can really break the daily grind. I woke up in the middle of the night to a light tapping sound only to find her in front of the laptop shaking her head disapprovingly at the exploitation of her species at icanhascheezburger.com. She looked at me, admonished me silently, then went back to typing. I felt deeply ashamed.- Tags:fubu

  hile the nearly two weeks spent at home was nice, and getting to spend so much time with my dear welfy, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm glad to have the wheels back on the road. All that time, though, allowed me to work on The Guy RoomTM. It has a long way to go, but Rome wasn't built in a day. We can only hope the decadence and grandeur of The Guy RoomTM can someday give Rome a run for its money.
The basement had begun to collect all manner of clutter from its general state of non-use so I began by sorting, organizing, and finding homes for this stuff. I decided to re-arrange the futon and coffee table and put them on the opposing wall. I also finalized the piecing together of a new PC I had started building, but more on that in a bit. First things first, I got some things hung on the wall, in particular, my Black-Jesus-Hanging-Out-With-Dead-Rappers art that I bought a few weeks ago found a home beside the door leading to the garage.
At the bottom of the steps, greeting all entrants to the Domain of Dudes, is a sign that Welf got for me.
Fubu likes The Guy RoomTM, too. She hangs out with me a lot when I'm down there.
So, another thing I added to the room was a fun kitty toy dipped in catnip oils. She had a blast. ( Read more... ) | |

  omething gave in the transmission this morning and I have no power. The drive shaft doesn't even turn. Looks like I'll be sitting in the Winston-Salem, NC area for a bit. Grand total? I made it about 800 miles from my last breakdown. Hopefully it won't take nearly as long as last time. One of the things which made that last break down so long was that the truck was in po-dunk Mississippi in a shop that was only open Monday-Friday from 8-5.  Hopefully being in a major urban area, not to mention a heavy trucking corridor (I-40), I'll get in a shop that's open 24/7 and get this resolved in 24-48 hours. I was hoping to make it farther north to pickup welfy before either breaking down again (which I was half expecting) or making it out to Omaha to put it in the fleet-owner's shop for repairs, that way at least we'd be together for the time I was sitting. Of course, the fleet-owner is only going to authorize the very minimum of work with the intent of still getting it to Omaha for the additional work. This is just a delay in the game plan, not a revision of it.
So I got to sit for a few hours this morning. Fubu seemed to enjoy the break, too.

 he SHOW US YOUR GAMS challenge has been a reasonable success so far, I think. While it would've been nice to have been inundated with so many photos that it would take me all summer to post them, I'm still really pleased with the number I've gotten, and continue to get. I would like to continue getting them. If you haven't, please consider it and send it may way. There ARE some of you who have hinted at maybe sending some but haven't yet (coughlowercasedeecoughdelicarosecough). I'd also like to see some from more of the guys. Today's legs photo comes from mystryloca, that is a simple set up, but a very intriguing photo. I'm starting to think I have a bit of a foot/ankle fetish. | |

 he news on the truck just keeps getting worse and worse. At the moment, it appears that I will be stuck in here in Hattiesburg until at least Tuesday. Based on this new information, I decided to take advantage of the weekend car rental rates. For just under $100 I was able to get a car today and keep it until early Monday afternoon. Apparently, Enterprise was running low on vehicles to rent-out; I didn't reserve anything special, just a something in the mid-sized sedan range to putter about in while I'm stuck here.
I really wasn't expecting to get a PT Cruiser.
I rented one of these several years ago for my girlfriend at the time, Robin. She loves these cars and as a birthday present I rented one for the day. It's typically considered to be one of Enterprise's upper-tier rentals. To wit, it cost me over $70 for a single day's rental on the weekend when I did it before. What a deal. I'll be style'n all weekend.
 mong the myriad of reasons I decided to rent a car for the weekend is that I thought it might be interesting to drive down the New Orleans tomorrow. It's a mere 120 miles south of here and with camera in-hand, I thought it might be worthwhile to survey the damage from Hurricane Katrina for myself. I'm also interested to see what a large American city that was essentially wiped off the map looks like; a modern-day ghost-city if you will. With the fortuitous acquisition of the Cruiser, if I get really into traveling around the city and taking photos, I could find a safe place to park, throw down the back seats and spend the night down there and resume on Sunday morning.
It's also occurred to me that lossfound is just a smidge over 300 miles down the road from me. Not an easy drive, but not a hard one either.
 ne thing I failed to mention is that this past weekend, I retrieved my cat from Robin's house and put her back on the truck with me. I decided to take a lengthy break from training while I got things worked-out with this truck and THE BIG MOVE coming-up with welfy. Welf and I had decided to put-off her job seeking for a couple of weeks and for her to come ride with me for a while before getting tied-down with another job. Then when we get a place, she and Miss Fubu can settle into the homestead and I'll take-on another student at that time. Fubu has been a little squirrelly about the new and changing surroundings over the course of the week but is adapting rather nicely.
'm trying not to be TOO annoying with the multiple LJ entries while I have all this free time on my hands, but it is nice getting caught-up on somethings I wanted to write about. Over the weekend, you can expect the first installment of entries about LEGS. Woohoo!

 'm eating hot turkey and cheese sandwiches, prepared on my new 12-volt sandwich grill. I have a feeling I'm going to begin being a bit more adventerous in my sandwich making in the near future.
I think the movie The Wedding Crashers would've worked better as a horror film starring Jane Seymour's neck.
I haven't had a student now for three weeks. The break has been nice, having the truck to myself, but I'm going to be missing the money real soon. Of course, after this week, I will probably start putting things in motion to purchase/lease my own truck. It might be simpler to make that move without a second person in the equation.
I was looking over some recent entries and it occured to me that I haven't posted a gratuitous welfy photo in a while. I took some at her house on my birthday, here's one I like.

2004: The Year In Photos, Part II July-December
JulySo, after finally healing that leg of mine, I got to go back to work and frankly, I was ready for it. What I didn't expect, though, was to be put into a Peterbilt. I had always driven Freightliner trucks during my brief career thus far, so it was a new experience in of itself. On top of that, it was a beautiful glossy black. I'm driving a red Pete now, and while it's essentially the same truck, it's not nearly as pretty as that truck was.  But, I was finally back on the road. The corn fields of Illinois, still being planted when I went on my leave of absence, were now oceans of green along-side the highway.  It was during this time that I decided to share with you something I had known about for some time, but hadn't taken the time to take pictures of it until now. The Used Amish Buggy Lot!
