I made fun of Jason when he said dumb things.  Delroy on the other hand says some interesting things from time to time.  Out of fairness, I figure I should document some of these things here.  Some of these require context, but I will try to be brief in their setup.  I present, the Delroyisms:

Once when comparing the act of job-hopping, something which is rampant in this business, Delroy said, "I don't want to be like no bird, jumping from limb to limb."

A couple of weeks ago, en route to Alabama, we went through Paducah, KY where he had just finished truck driving school before coming to work for my company.  We were on a very loose schedule, so I told him if he wanted to stop and say hi to the folks there, we could do that.  By this point, Delroy had been driving with me about a week and had been given a virtual trial by fire with lots of mountain driving in adverse, wet conditions.  While talking to some of the n00bs that were hanging around he said:

"I know you are thinking to yourself that this truck driving school is hard, learning to back and shift the gears, but you are only crying water.  When you get out here, mon, you will cry blood."

"Music is life."

"I smoke weed for thirty 38 years and I give it up to do this.  Some people couldn't believe I could that.  Thirty eight years, mon.  But you know what?  I smoked so much weed that now, if I ever feel like I want to get high, all I have to do is think about it."

Apparently, when I get stormodacentury in a couple of weeks, I'm going to be bombarded with bad jokes.  I promise I'll spare you.

>>"I thought those movies, even ones glorfying the fun of drug use always ultimately showed that the users always *thought* they were getting all deep and/or artistic...but if it was ever written down or recorded, it would be obvious later that it was all nonsense. ;-)"<<

I don't know, I have never taken much interest in those movies. Are they school based or just movies in general. Interesting to note, how many bands out there, creating music (to their fans ears and most of the general public) do you think, take drugs ?

>>"I can see a certain 'heightened awareness' in a somato-sensory sense....in the way that an autistic person is hypersensitive to subtle environmental variations...or the way a schizophrenic person might find hours of fascination with a snag in the rug..."<<

My gosh, I take it you haven't experienced all that much with some of those chemicals ? Or any of them ? When you talk about your friends, what age range is this in ? You cannot see anything, unless you've tried it. No matter what old mate Bill is doing over there in the corner and what it looks like to you in the outsiders position.
As I said, I used to use drugs, not anymore. The only thing that I can think of, that is even remotely like that is acid. Even then, not all the time. How is a line of coke, going to sit you on your arse and have you watching the brick work ? Or dropping a few decks ? I think you will find that they work in many different ways.

>>"That, and the term 'wasted', to me anyway, indicates a little more extreme intoxication than say 'getting a little high.'"<<

Actuall, I think you will find these days, here anyways, that the term wasted is used pretty loosely. Interestingly enough, if you go and get someone who is off tap and blind out of their skull, and then get someone else who has just popped something. See who is the least affected and the most understandable in a few hours. Though they are both wasted. No doubt the pill popping fiend will get bored and drive home, whilst the piss head will be throwing up on the couch.

>>"I've been the sober guy hanging out with the drugged up folks ( even pretty smart folks) many a time....and I sure never witnessed much in the way of stimulating insight"<<

Ahh...well, we have a problem then. See, i've been there and done that, been around it all, bought and sold it all and moved on eventually. I can talk from my own previous exerience as well as others, because I *know* what happens. You have just mentioned to being the sober guy at parties, and the only thing you could quote, I expect, would be scientific studies, to which there are none that I know of, because the new age party drugs haven't been around long enough.

>>"his idiomatic expressions, which may seem colorful to us, are probably the local cliches of his home. Hey, what can I say, I'm a grumpy ol' man."<<

Interesting, though I don't see that particularly, as you would more than likely hear the majority of them all over the world.

Now, on another note, i'm not trying to be rude or debate a topic such as this one. I've only just woken up before work, so hopefully it all makes sense, though I was planning on putting a different slant on it.
