music and lyrics

Location: Youngstown, OH

Run run run, no time for fun.  But heading home though, with plans to see Rocky Horror Saturday night at the Kentucky.

I keep having this odd, recurring dream about reconciliation with my ex-wife.  It's not the same dream though, more like, variations on a theme.  It's strange because I have no desire whatsoever to reconcile with my ex-wife, even if it were an option.  I've decided it must have something to do with one of two (or both) things.  One, I think it has something to do with the anticipated legal wrangling with her and secondly, it might have something to do with the two plus years of bachelorhood since ending things with my previous girlfriend.  I guess the absence of romantic entanglement bothers me on a level that I don't recognize or admit to consciously.  That's not to say I'm complaining, though.  I mean, I know the life I've chosen for myself and the immediate future pretty much negates any possibilities of developing relationships, romantic or otherwise.  You don't have much of a chance to be a social animal and create new reolationship bonds when you're on the road so much.  The only way a girl would entermy life right now is if I met someone that was in a position to ditch everything and hit the road or didn't mind that I was gone 5.5 days a week.

So, I guess there aren't many Sonic Youth fans on my f-list.  'Tis a pity.  On the subject of old music, I helped my brother move sometime back and discovered that he had in his possession a lot of old audio tapes that he had salvaged from a house fire I had many years ago.  There were tons of old album dubs I had made while working at the radio station, some of which I hadn't heard in years.  Probably the most interesting of the bunch was a mixtape recorded from pop radio of the mid-80's.  One song of interest to me was one that had escaped my memory because it had been so long since I had heard it and the oldies stations tend to play some of this artist's other, bigger hits in their rotation.  But the reason why I had taped this song so long ago is because of the lyrics in the opening verse of the song.  I absolutely dig 'em.  I'll give you a big ol' sloppy soul kiss if you recognize it.  Googling is cheating you know.

I met in a Frenchman in a field last night
He was out there with an easel painting carnival light
He said, "I used to paint the princess, I used to paint the frogs"
"Now I paint mustaches on dangerous dogs."
He said, "Sometimes it's a country, sometimes it's a girl"
"You know everybody got to have a purpose in this world"
"You Yankees are so silly about matters of the heart"
"Don't you know that women are the only works of art?"
