For the geekier among you:

Since joining Sprint last week, I have not been able to access the bulk of the website. I've concluded that it is a problem on my end, that for some reason the entire sprintpcs.com domain is inaccessible to me (however sprint.com is, which is useless for accessing anything). I've discovered I cannot even ping the domain. I have XP's firewall turned off, I don't seem to have any viruses or malware, and this installation of the OS is fairly new (2-3 months, tops)... so I'm stumped. I haven't had any access to another machine for testing, but I've had Welf ping the domain and she gets a reply just fine.

What else could be causing this?

I get the block box when i try to telnet in, but when i type "GET/" it doesn't do anything... just a cursor. Eventually it times out and gives me my command prompt again.

be sure there's a space between GET and / .. other than that, that's behaving like their webserver just doesn't want to serve you content.. even error messages, since even if you typed it wrong it would spit out something saying so. it might also be an edge media cache that has gone wonky. i would call sprint about it, since it seems to be so particular to your isp. in the short term, maybe consider a anonymizing web proxy like JAP?

the anonymizing portion of it would be useless to you, but since it reroutes web requests to foreign members of the JAP network. don't use JAP all the time, though. it will slow you down and make you look suspicious to .. people.

It doesn't work that way either. Calling Sprint was one of the first things I did... they could access the website with my account information from their computers just fine, then basically told me it was a problem with my computer, kthx, buh-bye.

I'm acutally trying to acess this using the internet service over my Sprint EVDO card... later today I may try accessing it from a wifi connection somewhere and see if I have any other luck.

I'll try out the anonymizing thing. I don't know why I didn't think of that before.

it very well *could* be your machine, but if it IS your machine, it's something pretty deep in the gears if telnet doesn't cause a response. the only things that can do that kind of damage are firewalls, anti-virus software, and relatively strange problems with tcp/ip configs/lmhosts :/

sorry!

Here's a question... and I'm sorry, I didn't read through everything to see if this has already been answered, but how do you connect to sprint? Is this a dial-up account? What other hardware do you run on your network at home? Are you trying to connect more than one machine to this?

There are a lot of variables here...

It's on a laptop over an EVDO modem.

What are you using for DNS?
