fter nearly three months of not doing anything, everything is finally beginning to come together - quickly. Yesterday I finally got my motor carrier number and D.O.T. number for the truck I'll be leasing. I'm shopping quotes on insurance, but will make my decision by Monday and have a policy activated. I may even do it tomorrow. Once this is done, it will be filed with the FMCSA and my authority will be granted in 10-14 business days.

On Tuesday, I'll be heading for Omaha to pick-up the tractor so that I can drive it back to Kentucky for an inspection and get my base plates. I'll also take care of IFTA, KYU and other loose ends while waiting on my authority. By the time I have it, I should be ready to roll. At the very latest, I should be back on the road sometime the week of April 13-19.

For those of you interested in the specifics, I'll be getting a 2004 Peterbilt 387 that will look nearly, if not exactly like, this:

I thought about going into more detail about the journey to getting my own authority, but since it hasn't ACTUALLY come-to-pass yet and there may be more bumps in the road to circumvent, maybe I'll save it for a later entry once I'm successfully in business. I'm sure there are at least a few of you that would be interested to know just what it is you have to go through.

I'm definitely interested. Keep us updated. Good to see you back "on the road again".

Now that I'm not going to be training any longer and have more say in where I go, etc... making a visit to Santa Rosa will be high on my list :).

I mean...Good work, sir!

(The house is going to feel very empty and sad without you here)

You'll probably be glad to have me out of your hair for a while again. :)

woo-taa. congrats and yeah, i think a post is in order. put it behind a cut for whiny bitches. or don't and make sure to include multiple random Goatse pastings.

how weird, i'm downloading that "living colour" album right now.

I haven't listened to that album in ages, but that particular song is on Guitar Hero 3 and I was stuck on it for a little while. Got it all stuck up in my head. It's easy to talk about how awesome Vernon Reid was, but I always thought Corey Glover was a fantastic vocalist. It's a shame those guys didn't make more records.

Heh, that's parked in front of my house. Well, my old house, that is. Now that street no longer exists, nor does our old house.

Which only means, of course, that you two need to visit again and take a NEW pic in front of our NEW house on our NEW street. :-D

I was wondering if you'd recognize that photo. :)

I'll probably be in Omaha toward the end of the week to get the new truck. Maybe I'll hafta swing by.

I'm eagerly awaiting specifics, also for you to purchase a monkey so that we can finally get some BJ & The Bear action going.

If the lady truckers out there were as hot as the ones on that show, everyone would be a trucker by now.

It's funny. I loved that show as a kid and got caught up in all the trucker madness of the late 70s like everyone else. People seldom grow up to actually become what they said they wanted to do when they were a kid. In a way, I fulfilled a childhood dream by going into this profession.

Good luck, man. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

And I hope you'll still be getting good fuel surcharges - it's up to $4.25 at a place I go by regularly here...

Well, I'll have my own authority and essentially independent. I doubt there'll be any fuel surcharges. Rather, I'll get paid whatever the load pays less a brokering fee.

Nice to see a post!!

Hope you've been enjoying the time off with the welfie :)

Sweet rig!

I'm a bit curious on how it all went.. please do post more details later :)

Hey, glad to hear things are coming together! Good luck with everything
