Wow, it's been a week since I've updated my journal. 'Tis the season.

Here's a recap:

Got home on Christmas Day and got together with my family the day after Christmas (siblings and cousins, and uncles, oh my!)... that was a fun, if long day....

On Saturday I helped my friend Robin move... and watched the Cats lose to a much more inferior Louisville team.... two years in a row

On Sunay I visited with my kiddos then headed east...

Which brings me to the fun news... with the plants and customers and what-not being closed this week as well... my backhaul from here in New Jersey doesn't have to be in Indiana until Friday.... which means I don't need to leave until Thursday which means... yup, I'm gonna spend New Year's in NYC... i was down in Time's Square ealier this afternoon, they already are setting up all the crap for the festivities down there....

...but that's not where i'll be....

I will be at a club called Southpaw in Brooklyn watching Northern State ring in the new year... i've already reserved my ticket... King Missile's playing an early show there that I may check out too....

woohoo... yeah I coulda gone home and spent new year's with friends and/or family.... but why do that?!?! muwahahah

you're in NYC alot.. you like delivering there?

yeah, well i deliver to north jersey a lot, but when i do i typically have time to go play in the city, which i do love.... for years i wanted to visit NYC... it was kind of my holy grail... now in the past year i've been up here maybe a couple of dozen times.... i can't get enough of it... i never complain about getting load to new jersey.... i guess someday ima just hafta move up here....

it's funny, the place that for years i wanted to visit and experience has become the one place away from home that i have visited/explored more than anywhere else.... of course, the cheap public transportation makes this so much easier to do than a lot of places....

My company had a yard in Bayonne, so I could catch the PATH into NYC, then hop the subways there.

that is one of the many things I miss. I was in Vegas about 6 times.. LA more times than I can count.. SF 4 times.. NYC acouple of times.. *sigh* good times..

You ever make it up this way? Minneapolis?

on occasion... i think i've been to minneapolis/st paul 2-3 times in the past year.... my travels keep mostly in the i-70 corridor east of the mississippi....

one of the coldest experiences i've had though since i've been driving was last winter when i had to deliver to Bemidji (sp?)... i was in the minneapolis area on that trip....

i can imagine missing it... the longer i do this the harder it becomes for me to imagine doing anything else... not having the ability to be everywhere all the time...

after i get antoher year under my belt, i'm giving consideration to getting off of this account and taking a position on a more general 48 states sort of work so i can see more... but right now, as a new driver, can't beat the pay on this account... ;-)

Let me know next time you end up through here :) do lunch up at the TA or something.

I loved driving. I miss it, but I like being home. I like being able to have some other hobbies besides driving ;) I noticed in your more recent post you have a kitty with you. I thought about it but afew people told me they can be difficult to get along with on the road.

Who are you driving for now? I was with US Xpress. I keep getting letters from them wanting me back even

i'll be sure to give ya a holler if i'm ever through minneapolis...

my cat adjusted rather well... the first couple of weeks she would hide in the back under the covers on the bunk and only come out when i was parked... now she has assumed the passenger seat for herself most of the time and fancies sitting on the dash when the sun is shining in, whether i'm driving or not....

i drive for Werner on an dedicated account for a cabinet company called Schrock... i could've gone 48 states and started out at .24/mi or get on this account which started out at .33/mi with a $700/week guarantee....

it was a no brainer... in another year, though, i can probably go out onto the general 48 states runs and make comparable to what i'm making on the account.... :)

Yeah.. I was a bit worried about the adjustment from the non-mobile domicile to constantly moving domicile. Hows the litterbox and such? Must have a little one tucked away in a corner. Do you "walk" her or take her out of the truck every now and then?

That is one sweet deal for a new driver. If I would've landed a deal like that, I would still be driving :) I had afew weeks where I made sub $200 and that pretty much made the decision for me to move on.

Hrm.. I haven't noticed in your posts much talk about family. I saw in your last one you have kids? Do you have an other half hiding somewhere or is it from a previous partner?

Inquiring minds want to know ;)

yeah... the account with the guarantee is a nice deal... that was one concern i had was when freight was slow being worried about making enough money... on this account, i don't hafta worry abut that... ;-)

i've 3 kids from a previous marriage... i've been happily divorced for about 4.5 years. so, other than the kids on weekends, there's no home life to be missing or anything while i'm the road... works out kinda nice, cos i don't hafta to bother with keeping an apt/car/etc that have price tages which i never use.... basically, i'm bill free except for some debt i'm trying to pay off and the child support...

I know USX lost alot of drivers in the last few months because of another apparent slowdown. My trainer was in town last week so we met up for lunch and he was talking about it. Lots of people left for greener pastures, but after realizing everyone was slow, quite afew came back.

That is one thing I'd do different if I did it again. I'd sell the house/car/cycle/etc. Thats what was causing me most of my problems. Bills for a house I never saw.. car I never drove.. cycle that collected dust..

Or, if I owned the truck, I'd put a cycle rack on behind the sleeper so I could ride around on it when I had a day or so off. I would've loved to have had the cycle when I was in LA or SF. Hell, NYC on a bike would've been fun.

Hrm.. Must be at a Flying Hook using their WiFi today? ;)

yeah i don't see much point in paying bills on something i'm never home to enjoy... in fact, i don't think i'll worry about any of that unles i decide to buy my own truck... if i buy my own truck i can work several weeks and take of a couple of week at a time and actually get some enjoymenet out of having a "home base"... but with only being home 6-7 days a month, 1.5-2 days at a time, i don't see much point....

naw on the flying j... killing some time in an internet cafe in times square...

yeah. True enough. So ya have XM? Dish? any extra toys on your rig? I had XM, playstation, DVD but no dish.

Also, something I've always been curious about.. how did you come across my little journal o trucker fun?

i knew i was forgetting something.... Booda Dome! that's what i use for a ltiter box... it's a small, round litter pan with a domed cover... kinda looks like a purple plastic igloo that is just the right size to sit inthe floorboard between the dash and the passenger seat....

i get her out of the truck every now and then... back in the summer onm a trip to upstate new york we i got her out of the cab at this little wayside park off the two lane that runs along the st lawrence river and we played out in the grass some.... for the most part she doesn't care about the outdoors though... she's always been an indoors cat.... i let her out into deserted parking lot once at a wharf in massachusetts... every now and then she'd forget thse was scared long enough to get the idea that she might want to chase seagulls, but then she'd remember that she was supposed to be scared and crouch back down around my legs again :)
